Bill blocking pensions for terrorists clears hurdle

Jpost Reports-

Legislation that would block terrorists in prison and their families from receiving certain pension payments received the Ministerial Committee for Legislation’s approval Sunday.

The bill proposed by MK Ya’acov Peri (Yesh Atid) would prevent terrorists from receiving disability payments and their families from receiving their pensions after they die. Peri explained that those payments come from money paid by all members of the pension fund.

“It’s unthinkable that terrorists and their families get money from all of us,” Peri lamented. “This bill is meant to increase deterrence and is meant to supplement laws blocking terrorists from getting National Insurance benefits by passing a law in the financial market.” Peri expressed hope that the law will pass soon and apply to those who attacked Israelis in the last 10 months’ wave of terror.

The MK, a former Shin Bet chief, cited the Security Agency’s finding that 74 percent of the terrorists who assaulted Israelis since October are Israeli citizens and the amount of Israeli Arabs joining terrorist organizations and activities is on the rise.

According to Israeli law, employers must deposit money into employees’ pension funds, which include disability and life insurance.
