Liberman lashes out at media over trial of Hebron shooter Elor Azaria

Jpost Reports-

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman lashed out at the Israeli media during his latest comments on the trial of Elor Azaria, the IDF soldier accused of illegally shooting dead an injured Palestinian attacker in Hebron.

During a tour of Beduin communities in the Negev, Liberman criticized press coverage of the trial, saying, “The Israeli media should remember that in the State of Israel, like in every democratic state, those who convict are only courts, not the media, but courts. As long as a person has not been convicted, they are innocent, and this includes Elor Azaria, and the soldier from the Netzah Yehuda [Battalion, who is under Military Police investigation for shooting dead an unarmed Palestinian on Friday].”

Liberman also told the media to “remember that people fight terrorism every day, and they can’t head out on their missions with an accompanying layer. Therefore, sometimes, their judgment is correct, and sometimes not, but we can’t reach a situation in which a soldier has to ask for a lawyer before he heads out on a mission.”

Liberman said he “expected the Israeli media to make an effort to strengthen Israeli deterrence against the enemies, not to deter Israeli soldiers in their fight against terrorists.”
